We've all seen them!

We've all used them!

We all get no where fast with them!

Let's set the scene:

You: I need a job or a full-time job. Where can I go to look?

Them: Go on your networking pages. You're sure to get a job.

You: Thanks for the advice. I'll do just that!

MONTHS LATER

You: I'm still in the same place I was in because no one is hiring! What's worse, I get rejected before even meeting anyone!

Them: You're not trying hard enough.

You: I have tried everything. I have applied on every job recruting board.

Them: You need to do more!

You: I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING!

Them: Clearly you haven't! You're still unemployed or underemployed!

And the cycle re-cycles. It's the Hamster on A Wheel scenario. Running on the wheel to nowhere!

DOES THAT SCENE LOOK FAMILAR TO YOU?!

IF SO, YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!

Myself and you, my visitors, are all aboard the Going Nowhere Fast Boat sailing on the Job Market River. Everyone around you says you can get a job, just be aggressive, you need to try harder, improve yourself and you can improve your surroundings. That's Horsecrap. The people who say that haven't done a 9-5 since the Clinton Administration! Until they walk in our shoes, they will never know how hard the pavement is beneath our feet. The road to a job is not a straight path. Oh no! It is filled with rocky edges, deadends, roundabouts and cliffs. Lots of people around me say 'just do X, and Y will happen' or 'you need to hustle and things will change'. You can hustle all you want to Destination A, but if Company X isn't willing to see you, you're going to be stuck at Destination A behind a cement wall.

What happens next at Destination A? You hang out, you try to understand and identify what you need to work on to improve your self. You get the Believe Me Blue attire, you fine tune your resume either with a resume coach or through an AI app, if you're into makeup you wear toned down colors to make yourself more professional. What happens? If you're lucky, you get a interview. Repeat that's if you're lucky! They tell you they will be in touch. You go home and talk to your family, friends, significant other and wait...then YOU DON'T GET THE JOB!

Instead of people trying to understand why you're frustrated and angry at the universe, they start with the whole 'somethings gotta change', 'it can't be this hard', 'why are you just sitting around', and my personal favorite 'go learn a trade'. It's like they expect you to pull a job out of thin air. And the go learn a trade spew, do they not realize that those courses take money. Money comes from having a career, a career comes from being hired, being hired comes from companies actually reaching out to candidates. That is not in our control!

I'm sure you know of that show; 'Undercover Boss'. It's the series where the big boss goes undercover to see what really happens at their businesses. I wish I could do 'Undercover Jobsearch'. If that was possible so many people with high end jobs and careers would have a better understanding of the struggle that we, the ones seeking gainful employment, face on the Journey To A Job!

Someone close to me said one day "I would just walk into headhunting offices and temp agencies and they would work with me to find a job. Is it not like that anymore?" Spoken like a person who has not done a standard 40hour work week in this decade. Do you know what that means? That means they haven't applied for any jobs this decade. Yet, they think they know what you need to do to get that much needed job. That person has a secured career; and I am very happy for her. I am delighted that she found her place in the world. But the tactics that helped her in her time of need are clearly no longer in use!

Those easy days of just needing to know English, having clean clothes and shoes, and fresh breath are long over. Those were the days where you contact a hiring manager directly, go for a face to face interview and dazzle the interviewer with your personality and meet some of the staff. That was when finding a job was about human interaction; one to one! Humans use to look over your resume and determine if they want to meet with you.

Now, it's the Era Of The Bots!

The dreaded pain in the butt bots! The little computer creatures that scan your resume to see if you are worthy of an interview. You go to the various online job sites, staffing sites, recruting sites and fill out all of the questions, send off your resume and cover letter, your references, your availability, and those extra forms!  Only for The Bots determine if you are worthy of a trip to the office to be interviewed!

It's like a bad joke! Filling out all those online forms, returning phone calls and emails is almost like a job; except you don't get paid! We need JOBS! We need to make a living! We need to be seen!

After this part that's when the next phase begins to happen. You wait and wait and wait and wait. If it's a holiday weekend, the wait is even longer; and then you check your email. Of course, you are expecting great news. You have waited this moment for weeks. You applied for various companies. You are hoping for many job offers. Instead you get many rejections! You just got rejected by a bot! You reply to that email, cause it looks like a standard one, and you get a reply saying 'this inbox is not monitored'

What The Actual Fluff ?

You can't contact the hiring manager because there's no way to contact them. Your job recruiters aren't working their magic. The Bots are rejecting you. Yet somehow it's your fault. You sent out resumes, you went on a few interviews, you do anything and everything you can to make your self more marketable and stand out from the crowd. Yet, it's somehow your fault that companies aren't responding to you!

I have been there. I am still there.

Hiring managers rejecting you without even meeting you is a huge problem in today's job market. Lets recap: Us, the applicants, fill out applications online now. So that eliminates any face to face meetings until a bot or a Virtual Assistant deems us worthy of being interviewed by the person we going to hopefully work with daily. Why are we meeting with Virtual Assistants at all? How is that person going to convey the passion in our voices?

I keep getting Application Viewed notices but no one actually contacts me. On that rare occasion that someone does communicate with me, I do a virtual interview with someone that doesn’t actually work in that office. They ask me questions then will funnel my answers back to you. Why are you going through a third party to get to know me? How is that person going help move me along through the process when it’s you I’m trying to dazzle with my personality. Yes, skills are a huge part of any job interview but personality is equally important. My main area is customer service. In that field two things are necessary; skills and personality. If I was a client, customer, whatever the preferred term is, I would rather be serviced by an associate/employee that knows hows to interact me on a personal level than by a person who knows what Control P does on a Mac! Computer skills can ALWAYS be learned! Dealing with the public is tied to a person's emotional control. You can't judge a persons emotional control without meeting them! Going by someone learned skills means you could be hiring someone who flies off the handle if a customer simply looks at them the wrong way.In other words, by going through a third party, you are evaluating me off a email sent to you. The written word has nothing to do with who I am as a person! You, the company, should be the one interviewing me; from preliminaries to the grand finale. You are the ones I’m going to be working for/with and therefore you and I should be the ones getting to know each other.

Interviewing is like Dating. It’s the getting to know you phase. Virtual Assistants are not used in dating. So why are they used in employment? One might argue that dating sites are similar. No, they are not. Here's why: on a dating site you get to decide who you'd like to meet. There's no third party talking to the potential date and arranging a meeting. Its you and the person you want to meet on a dating site.

And I have been on dating sites and they went no where. I met my boyfriend the old fashion way. That's right folks; I met him IN PERSON. And not through friends of friends either. I met him directly on my own! I know it's a SHOCKER; especially since everything today is digital!

In my final thoughts for this opening post; I will now talk about the email we have all received. So you have sent out dozens of resumes, a few days have passed and you get a new email in your inbox. You immediately open it. You read it. It starts with the right words.

Hello Candidate

While your skills are impressive, we wanted to let you know we have decided to move forward with another candidate.

OR

We have reviewed your resume and found it most impressive. However, we are going with another candidate that better matches our needs.

Sincerely Some Company

That above email has been in my inbox too many times!

So Companies, I ask you the following.

What exactly are your company needs? Can any company answer that question? Again, you are basing me off a skill sheet. What about the following?

Reliable. That’s me!

Hard worker. That’s me!

People person. That’s me!

Punctual. That’s me!

References needed. I have both personal and business!

Computer savvy. That’s me!

Always learning new things. That’s me!

Working history. That’s me!

Charming. That's me!

Those are MY traits that you don't see or even get to know because you base everything off a piece of a paper. So many companies tell me my skill set is impressive; so why do you cut me off before the interview! Get to know me before you judge me.

So what else other than that are you looking for in regards to your company needs? That rare computer program than only those in the know know. Well you can teach me those. You, the higher ups, should be leaders to us wanting to join your company.

As stated above, a nyone can learn computer programs, the flow of a company. The hard part is finding staff members that can maintain a level head, can talk to anyone about pretty much anything, and aren't afraid to ask questions!

Just one more thing; what is with the Experience Needed for an Entry Level job.

That’s the biggest oxymoron I have ever heard. It’s an entry level job! That’s like asking a freshman in high school what classes a graduate student should study. The graduate student should be the one mentoring the freshman.

I SAY NO MORE!

No more being rejected without being met with first!

No more needing experience for an entry level position!

No more BOTS!

I want to be interviewed by a flesh and blood individual in person!

So Legit Companies. Legit as in a website, a phone number I can call that says Thank You for calling …. How may I direct your call? and I can see reviews online as well as the address for your branch or headquarters please send me a message to wherearethejobs2024@gmail.com

If you are seeking a office assistant full time who has people skills and knows how to work a computer. I want a full time job. I need a full time job.

Thank you.
